The Policy Plan 2026-2028

Introduction

In 2014, the BriBos Verwentasjes Foundation, or BriBos Foundation for short, was founded by Brigitte Bosman. It is a charitable organization. The foundation aims to support people affected by cancer and their loved ones in coping with the disease. Information provision, peer support, and advocacy specifically for cancer patients are paramount.

The BriBos Foundation has limited financial resources – and also limited staff. We receive the materials for the bags from businesses and individuals. Approximately 20 volunteers actively support the BriBos Foundation's objectives.

In the coming years, the BriBos Foundation will focus on increasing support—both human and financial—for its activities. In 2014, it received ANBI status. We hope to be eligible for more grants.

Cooperation

We collaborate with various patient associations within the NFK and the KWF. These associations provide us with the right information for specific types of cancer. They provide us with various brochures, which are then distributed to patients in bags.

At various hospitals, such as HMC Westeinde in The Hague and HMC Antoniushove in Leidschendam, we work closely with doctors and oncology nurses. We're also seeing a growing number of patients from other hospitals coming to our walk-in and pampering room.

Our volunteers, for the purpose of peer support, are trained for this through special courses.

Financial policy

We are constantly looking for ways to use limited resources as effectively as possible while maintaining quality. This will continue in the coming years.

Monetary donations made to the foundation by individuals or businesses are used to purchase products for the gift bags and activities/pampering moments in the drop-in/pampering room. Donations in kind are also used for workshops in the drop-in/pampering room or to fill the pampering bags.

Volunteer policy

Since 2014, one of the board members of the BriBos Foundation has been specifically responsible for developing volunteer policy. To this end, they not only maintain contact with the existing small group of volunteers but also explore opportunities to increase the number of active volunteers. Increasing the visibility and brand awareness of the BriBos Foundation is a key tool in this process.

Experience shows that people are more willing to commit to manageable tasks for a limited period. Therefore, it's essential to organize as many activities as possible as projects.

The main aim will be to recruit committed and/or expert volunteers for tasks in the field of peer support and information provision.

Contact with fellow patients

Contacts are made, for example, through the website, referrals from doctors, people already familiar with the BriBos Foundation, and social media. This experience will be used to establish regional peer support.

Information provision and media policy

The BriBos Foundation's information services are primarily aimed at informing cancer patients and their loved ones about cancer and its treatment and prevention options. Important developments are communicated to cancer patients through personal contact and the website.

The BriBos Foundation aims to increase its visibility in the coming years and thus reach more potential donors and volunteers. Therefore, providing information about the foundation's work is also a key priority. Interested parties are informed about the BriBos Foundation's work through its website, Facebook page, and brochures.

Website and Social Media

In 2025, the BriBos Foundation website will be improved, and a policy will be developed to more actively use social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. The BriBos Foundation will closely monitor developments around Kanker.nl and actively participate where possible and appropriate for its own goals and target audience. Our chair has been closely involved in the platform's development since the very beginning of Kanker.nl and also moderates patient support on several forums.

Advocacy

The BriBos Foundation is committed to the general advocacy of cancer patients. This advocacy is, and will continue to be, closely linked to direct contact with fellow cancer patients. The interaction between the board and fellow cancer patients is crucial. The network of fellow cancer patients ensures that the board is always aware of the current experiences and perceptions of cancer patients. This allows the board to continually draw the attention of the wider community to what is needed to continue improving the care and treatment of cancer patients.

In the context of advocacy, a more active policy will also be pursued to maintain contact with the professional group of oncology physicians and oncology nurses.
